They Dont Want You To Have These Acid Reflux Secrets

Having acid reflux can quickly become problematic within every day life. Besides the pain and inconvenience that comes along with this experience, having to explain it to others can become tiresome. Make it more tolerable to live with acid reflux by reading this tips in this article and using them!

If you notice that spicy foods cause you problems, do not eat anything with peppers or chilies in them. This will help to prevent heartburn. At the very least, reduce the frequency with which you eat these items. You should notice an immediate difference in the way that you feel.

If youre experiencing acid reflux lately, try a new diet that consists of low-acid foods. Avoid spicy or acidic foods and eat your food slowly. If you still get acid reflux, its probably time to check in with your doctor. Although your problem may not be serious, it may require medication that your doctor can recommend or prescribe.

The more fluid you drink during your meal, the more volume is placed in your stomach. This causes more distension in the stomach and adds pressure to the lower sphincter of the esophagus, creating the perfect condition for acid reflux. Try drinking between meals and drink water in small sips rather than big gulps.

Keep chewing gum handy. When you chew gum, it not only freshens your breath, but it causes you to salivate. This helps wash acid down your esophagus and back into your stomach, where it belongs. When choosing a flavor, avoid citrus and mint. Mint can cause your esophageal sphincter to relax, and citrus is high in acid.

Elevate your head above the bed. This can be done by using bricks, blocks of wood or by getting those raisers that are built for lifting up a bed. Ideally, your head should be elevated six full inches higher than your feet. If the chest and head are elevated, then you may be able to keep the stomach acid from rising.

When you complete your meal, do not lie down on your back or stomach. This position uses gravity to build up acid in your stomach, which is one of the main reasons why you get acid reflux and heartburn. Walk around your home or do the dishes after you eat to prevent this from happening.

Exercise

Contracting the abdominal muscles can make food that is in your stomach to make its way back into the esophagus. This is why you need to wait until at least one hour after eating before you attempt to do any physical exercise. You should also avoid any other types of physical exertion directly after meals.

Wait to exercise after you eat. If you put off your exercise by at least an hour, the food will have a better chance to digest. Physical exertion right after you eat could cause the food to move back up toward the esophagus. This could be very uncomfortable and hard to fight.

Try and do some sort of activity in which you are upright, like walking. This form of exercise can help you improve your acid reflux for several reasons. When you are standing upright, it is easier for digestion to occur. Secondly, it promotes weight loss which has also been shown to help with acid reflux. Even though it is essential to get regular exercise, you dont want to be too hardcore about it, as this can indeed make your acid reflux worse, not better.

Instead of continuing to suffer from the painful and annoying effects that come with acid reflux, take your life back. Using preventative measures and other simple adjustments in your life can make a huge difference. Remember the tips in this article so acid reflux doesnt cause more problems than it has to!
